This year, CSRF's Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) committee will be hosting a BIPOC welcome reception on the first night of the conference (Thursday, October 22) from 5:30-6:30 for BIPOC conference attendees.

Appetizers and one drink ticket will be provided (good for 1 alcoholic beverage/mocktail), and a cash bar will be available. This will be an excellent opportunity for networking and building community with the CSRF BIPOC community.

The event is FREE for student attendees and $10.00 for non-student attendees. If you are a non-student who wishes to attend, please add this to your cart and pay for it along with registration.

BIPOC Definition:

We recognize that identity is personal, contextual, and nuanced and that the term BIPOC in and of itself is problematic by aggregating distinct experiences opposed to truly acknowledging both the unique and shared lived experiences of diverse identities.

For us, BIPOC refers to Black, Indigenous, People of Colour whose lived experiences, identities, and relationships with systems of power have historically been underrepresented in CSRF. These identities are shaped in varied and intersecting ways by various social locations, such as race, ethnicity, culture, religion, language, colonialism, migration and displacement, and structural inequity.

We welcome individuals who self-identify as part of these communities. If you are unsure whether you 'count,' we invite you to reflect on how you and your communities experience racism, exclusion, or marginalization in relation to whiteness and dominant institutions in Canada; if those dynamics are part of your lived experience, you are welcome to attend.
