CSRF BIPOC Student Bursaries and BIPOC Research Presentation Award

 CSRF Conference BIPOC Student Bursaries

The CSRF Black, Indigenous, or other Persons of Colour (BIPOC) student bursaries are intended to support the participation, engagement, and integration of BIPOC students at the annual CSRF meetings. The significance of a bursary acknowledges the additional barriers to meeting attendance and participation that BIPOC students may face in their lives. The bursaries are intended to alleviate financial barriers experienced by many BIPOC students, and also, importantly, demonstrate our commitment to expanding the diversity of our organization. The awards will not be based on academic achievement or abstract submission, but rather self-identified BIPOC status and lack of financial support to attend the CSRF meeting.

Two recipients will have their registration fees waived. Additionally, the CSRF Executive Committee will provide additional funds (up to $1500 CAD across awardees). This money can be used by students to offset the costs of flights, hotels, meals, etc. Students will receive a cheque for these funds at the conference. Additional awards may be offered pending fund availability.

Eligibility

  • The student must self-identify as BIPOC. One award will prioritize Black and Indigenous students. All BIPOC students are encouraged to apply.

  • If you would like to attend the conference but did not submit an abstract, you are still eligible to apply for the bursary.

  • We will not require any evidence of specific financial need. However, the student will need to attest to the fact that they have not received sufficient financial support (e.g., by a research supervisor) to cover expenses for the annual CSRF meeting.

  • Applicants must be registered (full or part-time) as a student in an accredited academic or clinical training program of study leading to a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional (e.g., medicine, law, social work) degree who have received, are currently receiving, or are interested in receiving training in sex education, sex research, sexual medicine, or sex therapy. The applicant does not need to be a student member of CSRF.

  • Students who receive the bursary must attend that year’s annual conference or return the bursary funds to CSRF.

  • You are eligible to receive this award once per degree (e.g., Bachelors, Masters, PhD). For example, if you received the award in the first year of your Masters, you are not eligible to apply in the second year of your Masters. Rather, you would have to wait until the first year of your Ph.D.

Application Steps

Step 1. Review the Eligibility Criteria above and ensure that you meet these criteria.

Step 2. Complete the Application Form (due by June 2, 2024).

Step 3. If you are not a CSRF student member but are a student, you will need to provide proof of your current enrollment as a student in an academic or training program. You can upload your confirmation of enrollment directly in the Qualtrics survey, or you can email it to Gillian, our Executive Director, at csrf.ed@gmail.com. An unofficial transcript or confirmation of enrolment statement is sufficient. If you are submitting an unofficial transcript, feel free to black out the grades, as they are not relevant to the bursary selection process. Applicants who are submitting abstracts do not need to complete this final step.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: You must complete the application before June 2, 2024.

Bursary Selection Process and Administration

  • Awards will be selected through a minimum of 2 random draws. If there is more than one Black or Indigenous student who has applied for the bursary, one individual will be randomly selected (Draw #1). All other applicants (except the applicant who was successful in Draw #1) will be included in subsequent draws (this includes applicants from Draw #1 who were not selected).

  • The Conference Chair (President-Elect) will administer the bursaries.

  • Additional awards may be offered pending availability of funds (see BIPOC Bursary Fund details below).

Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Fund

In addition, all registrants of the conference will be given the opportunity to donate to the JEDI Fund upon registration.

c)     other initiatives proposed by the CSRF JEDI committee and approved by the Executive Committee (e.g., Workshops, Researcher in Residence honorarium).

Administration of the fund

·      The Fund will be used exclusively for JEDI Committee initiatives.

·      The Executive Committee will administer the fund in consultation with the JEDI Committee.
